Christian Music - My Take
According to Wikipedia; Like other forms of music the creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of Christian music varies according to culture and social context.
This seems a little generic and fundamentally misses the point. For me, christian music satisfies two purposes;
- God. “Psalms 57:7 My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.”
- People. “Psalms 40:3; He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.”
Whilst most genre of music focus on groove, style and trending sound, christian music focuses on lyric, faith and passion. Lyric as to first be biblically correct, faith that establishes identity in/with Christ and passion – an expression of response.
These in my view are the core elements of christian music. So no matter the genre type (or sound), this music takes you on a journey to divinity and satisfies that hunger in all humans that only God can fulfil – Yemi Alafifuni.
